About 40,000 people enjoyed outdoor festivities last weekend at the Croydon Summer Festival.
As well as live performances from big-time 90s band Stereo MCs and singer Finley Quaye on Saturday and the Bollywood Brass Band on Sunday, outdoor activities included a demonstration by the Croydon Judo Club and a kabaddi match between the British and Italian national teams.
Kabaddi is a fast-moving Asian sport where the teams take turns sending a ‘raider’ across to the opposite team to tag or wrestle them before returning to the home half.
Organiser Jenny Gunston, said: “Our attendance was 15,000 on Saturday and 25,000 on Sunday. We felt the overcast weather lowered numbers on Saturday.
“The festival went really well from production and police perspective with a lovely community feel on site and only a few minor incidences.
“The bands were well received and the Stereos closed the main stage on Saturday with a storming live performance.
“The addition of the international kabaddi match on Sunday drew a large crowd and added to the variety of outdoor entertainment on site.
“We are delighted that so many people attended and with the way the weekend went.”
